“I certainly gained a lot, and what was especially useful was to see theory put into practice. I think the DRP is a great way to introduce developers to existing and new development products and techniques.”

DRP Course Graduate

Developer mentorship by developers for developers, working together to produce quality solutions on time, every time.

What is DRP?
The Developer Readiness Program (DRP) provides specialised training around Microsoft® technologies for developers, by developers.

What the DRP is NOT!
  • Pre-defined, static or formal classroom training, therefore is not an alternative to CTEC for formal training.
  • A regular training program just to learn the technology.

What the DRP is designed for?
  • Courses are designed to enhance a developer's skill set, especially where knowledge gaps are critical to a development project path, and need to be rapidly addressed.
  • "On-Demand" and “tailored" program to meet customer requirements with tangible deliverables, complementing self paced and classroom training, such as CTEC.
  • Provides training courses for corporate development teams, around a spectrum of Microsoft Technologies, which can be customised to meet specific requirements.
The DRP is intended as "just in time developer readiness or technology adoption."
  • Hands-On On-Site Mentoring and Consulting.
  • Holistic approach covers requirements gathering, analysis, design, development, testing, debugging, deployment and Interoperability in the Enterprise space.
  • Best practices.
  • Architecting .NET Applications.
  • Prototyping and Creating Proof-of-Concept.
  • Bootstrapping or fast-tracking implementations with clear deliverables.

What DRP handout material is there?
DRP information dump, boot camp and workshop attendees receive the following:
  • Presentation Handouts
  • Extensive Sample Source Code
  • Best Practices Book (New Horizon Boot Camp)
  • Companion Solution (New Horizon Boot Camp)
  • Technology and Tool Quick Reference Charts

Information Dumps, Boot Camps and Workshops
DRP training is further differentiated by its hands-on approach to learning. This takes the form of practical information dump sessions, boot camps and workshops.
  • Information Dump Session
Informational (hands-off) focus on specific technologies, typically used as refresher or review program.
  • Boot Camps
Hands-on design and development sessions, which assume familiarity with the relevant technologies and focuses primarily on best practices for solution development.
  • Workshops
An extension to the boot camps, introducing in-depth excursions into specific technologies and exploring new/forth-coming technologies, such as Whidbey, Indigo, ShadowFax, etc.

DRP is a joint Microsoft® Program
DRP is a BB&D initiative, and was created together with Microsoft Services South Africa. BB&D works closely with the Microsoft® Services and Microsoft® Developer Evangelist teams to maintain professional, benchmarked and industry recognised content for our training services.

DRP Mentorship Program
The optional DRP Mentorship Program ensures that you have developer mentorship and support from the beginning to the end of a project and beyond.
  • Proof of concept of technologies
  • Developer Readiness
  • Architecture Design, Construction, Testing and SDLC
  • Solution/Design reviews
  • Full-time or part-time mentorship
The DRP Mentorship effectively gives access to experienced resources as and when needed, as well as the BB&D ASTRA (Architecture and Strategy) community, who are specialists in architecture, strategy and interoperability of heterogeneous solutions and technologies.

Examples of DRP Mentorship Programs, which can be tailored and mixed as required:

  1. Ramp-Up In-House Development Teams
Enhance the developer team skill set through focused information dumps, boot camps and/or workshops, addressing critical knowledge gaps.
  2. Proof of Concept Mentorship
Following the tailored information transfer sessions, evaluate and prove design and technology through a focused proof-of-concept.
  3. Solution A-Z Mentorship
Provides mentorship through all some or all stages of the project software development life cycle, ensuring that solutions are based and constructed on best practices and “in-the-field” experience.

As shown in the illustration the mentor involvement usually diminishes as the solution team’s experience and competence increases through the life cycle of the projects.

Conclusion

The DRP is a flexible value add initiative, ensures continuity in terms of mentorship and support through Proof-Of-Concepts (PoC) and Solutions, using the DRP Mentorship on full-time, part-time or ad-hoc basis.
